William Dongois studied trumpet at the conservatories of Reims and Paris.  On completing his studies, he took up orchestral positions at the conservatory and at the Grand Theatre in Reims, and began teaching the trumpet.  In addition, he continued his musical training through the study of composition.
The combination of his experience with the trumpet and his affinity for early repertoire led him naturally to the cornetto. He received his first instruction in courses with Jean-Pierre Canihac, and further pursued study of this instrument at the Schola Cantorum in Basel with Bruce Dickey.

William Dongois has played and recorded with Hesperion XX, Concerto Palatino, Ton Koopman, Andrew Parrott and René Jacobs.  He was a founding member of the ensemble La Fenice, with whom he obtained first prizes in the competions at Brugges (1991) and Malmö (1992).  He appears regularly as guest soloist with numerous ensembles, and is artistic director of Le Concert Brisé.
He teaches cornetto at the Centre de Musique Ancienne from the “Conservatoire de  Genève (High School for Music of Geneva).
